How do straight A students study?
Have you ever wondered how some of your classmates can achieve superhuman grades while you are struggling to pass some subjects? Or how you seem to study twice as hard as them but get half their scores? Well you have come to the right place…let us show you why this is the case by sharing with you the secret to how straight A students study!
1. Study Smart

Studying hard is one thing, but studying smart is another. Straight A students don’t need to study from morning to night because they have found the best STRATEGY that works for them. Firstly, they know what type of learner they are using the V.A.R.K classification system: Visual, Auditory, Reading/Writing, Kinesthetic. Understanding the best way YOU learn will help you improve your learning methods so that you can absorb information quickly and accurately. Secondly, study consistently! Straight A students study in short chunks throughout the year, whereas people who cram for their exams the night before tend to do much worse. Just a little bit of revision everyday can help you in the long run!
2. Whole brain notes

Now you may wonder, how exactly do straight A students seem to be able to cram so much information into their brains? Seems superhuman, doesn’t it? Well, as our trainers would teach you in our I Am GiftedTM school holiday programmes, everyone is GIFTED and we all have the ability to do well as long as we use the right strategy! One way that we teach students to revise effectively is by using whole brain notes. Similar to a mind map, the process of making whole brain notes mimics the way our brain works when we are thinking or recalling something, hence the name whole brain notes! Whole brain notes have helped many of our I Am GiftedTM participants digest information at superhuman speeds, giving them the ability to score As for their exams!
3. Super memory

“I have a bad memory…that’s why I can’t do well in school.” Have you ever used this as an excuse? Well, did you know that everyone has an equal ability to remember and store information? Studies have shown that super memory is not a gift or talent that people are born with, but rather, a skill that can be developed. The 3 steps to gaining super memory are: 1. Registration, 2. Retention, 3. Recall. When we first encounter a piece of information, our brains are registering this through our 5 senses. Then comes retention, your brain has to store that information in its original form. Often, if you don’t put effort into this retention process information is lost or warped, and that is why you remember dates, names and formulas wrongly! Finally, you have to recall this information. One way to do this is to make use of connections and link pieces of information together. Check out this website to learn more about the linking method to improve memorisation skills!
